The CYCLELOGISTICS project (co-funded by the EC under the Intelligent Energy for Europe Programme) will achieve a concrete reduction in energy used for urban freight transport. This will be accomplished through intra-urban final delivery of goods by bicycle rather than motorized vehicles, using expert know-how from existing cycle logistic companies and inciting policy interventions across Europe. The project will equally showcase examples which are already working and encourage private individuals to transport goods with bicycles.
CYCLELOGISTICS will have a specific focus on the urban environment and in particular inner cities. The consortium is comprised of local authorities, the private sector, communications experts and energy agencies. They receive support from traffic planning experts including cyclists groups. This group will enable cycle logistics to evolve from a niche market into a widely-accepted alternative for urban goods transport.
CYCLELOGISTICS intends to:
Integrate bicycle logistics in municipal policies and urban transport plans
Achieve large scale application of transport cycle for community and business services. This can be accomplished by amending the local transport policies in a way that is favorable for deliveries done by bike (and unfavorable for cars & trucks)
Optimize/Improve upon conditions for shoppers by increasing bike possibilities at supermarkets and shops
